Before You Travel

Do I need to do anything before I leave?

Yes. There are a few important steps to complete before your departure:

  1. Check device compatibility — Your phone must be unlocked and compatible with the AT&T network. Use AT&T’s official compatibility checker at att.com/prepaid/byod and enter your IMEI number.
  2. Submit your activation request — Scan the QR code on your product packaging (or in your User Guide) to submit your IMEI and your arrival date. Do this at least 3 days before your arrival date so we have time to process the activation.
  3. Confirm your phone is unlocked — Being on a postpaid or contract plan with your local carrier does not necessarily mean your phone is unlocked. Check with your current provider if unsure.

What if I need to change my arrival date?

If you need to change your arrival/activation date after submitting the activation request, please contact us at least 3 days before your original arrival date. We’ll be happy to assist with updating the commencement date. Please note that while the activation date can be changed, the activation time will remain at approximately 8:00 AM PST (Los Angeles time).

Activation

When and how does the SIM or eSIM activate?

The SIM/eSIM activates automatically at 8:00 AM Pacific Standard Time (PST) on the arrival date you nominated. You do not need to do anything at that moment — simply insert the SIM or install the eSIM once you arrive in a supported coverage country.

⚠️ Important:
Please only insert the physical SIM or install the eSIM while in the USA, Canada, or Mexico. Using or attempting to activate the SIM/eSIM outside these coverage countries may result in the service being automatically blocked by the provider and flagged as potential fraud activity.

Physical SIM — Step-by-step activation

  1. Insert the SIM card into your unlocked device after arriving at your destination.
  2. Go to your phone’s Mobile Settings and confirm the AT&T SIM is selected as your Default Voice Line and Mobile Data source.
  3. If you are travelling in Canada or Mexico, make sure Data Roaming is turned ON (see instructions below).
  4. You’ll receive a text from AT&T with your US phone number. Alternatively, check your phone settings or dial #611# to retrieve your number.

Note: Steps may vary slightly depending on your device model.

eSIM — Step-by-step activation

  1. After placing your order, you will receive activation instructions (allow up to 24 hours).
  2. Submit your EID and IMEI2 numbers and your arrival date via the instructions.
  3. After arriving, connect to stable and strong Wi-Fi before installing the eSIM.
  4. Watch for a push notification on your device that your AT&T cellular plan is ready to install. Tap it to download the eSIM. Alternatively, scan the QR code sent to your email (the QR code only works once the eSIM has been activated).
  5. In your phone settings, set the eSIM as your primary data source.
  6. Disable Auto Data Switching.
  7. Turn on Data Roaming (required for Canada and Mexico).
  8. Restart your device.

💡 If the eSIM doesn’t connect immediately, do not delete the profile. Wait up to 30 minutes for activation to complete.

How do I set the AT&T SIM as my default data and calls line?

  • iOS: Settings → Mobile → Default Voice Line / Mobile Data → select your AT&T SIM
  • Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → tap Calls or Mobile Data → select AT&T SIM
  • Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Network → Mobile Data → select AT&T SIM

How do I turn on Data Roaming for Canada and Mexico?

Data Roaming is required when using this SIM in Canada or Mexico. It is not required while in the USA.

  • iOS (physical SIM): Settings → Mobile → your AT&T SIM → toggle Data Roaming ON
  • iOS (eSIM): Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options → SIM section → select Primary → toggle Data Roaming ON
  • Android: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → toggle International Data Roaming ON
  • Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Network → Advanced → Data Roaming → toggle ON

Coverage & Network

Where does this SIM/eSIM work?

Region Network Data
USA (all 50 states incl. Hawaii, Alaska & Puerto Rico) AT&T Unlimited 4G/5G
Mexico AT&T Mexico Unlimited 4G/5G
Canada Rogers / Bell / Telus 25GB roaming

You can check coverage in specific areas using the AT&T coverage map.

Does it work in Hawaii and Alaska?

Yes. All 50 US states are covered, including Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.

Does it work in Canada and Mexico?

Yes. The SIM includes roaming in Canada (25GB) and unlimited data in Mexico. Data Roaming must be enabled on your device to use data in Canada and Mexico.

Does it work outside of USA, Canada, and Mexico?

No. This SIM is designed for use in the USA, Canada, and Mexico only. It does not support data or calls in other countries.

Will it work on cruise ships?

At sea, signals are typically only available via satellite networks, which this SIM does not support. Your SIM will reconnect to local networks once you are closer to port.

Calls, Texts & Your Phone Number

Will I get a US phone number?

Yes. A US phone number with the +1 country code is included with this plan. Your number is generated once the SIM is activated. You’ll receive a text from AT&T with your number upon arrival, or you can: - Dial #611# to retrieve your number - Check your phone settings

Who can I call and text?

Destination Calls Texts
USA ✅ Unlimited ✅ Unlimited
Canada ✅ Unlimited ✅ Unlimited
Mexico ✅ Unlimited ✅ Unlimited
International (other countries) ❌ Not included ✅ Unlimited to 230+ countries from USA

How do I call Canadian or Mexican numbers?

Always include the country code: - Canada: +1 [area code] [number] — e.g. +1 604 852 5326 - Mexico: +52 [area code] [number] — e.g. +52 55 1234 5678

Can I call Australia (or other countries outside North America)?

International calling to countries outside USA, Canada, and Mexico is not included. Use data-based apps such as WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, or Snapchat for calls and messages to Australia and other countries.

Can my family or friends back home call me on my US number?

Yes. They can call and text your US number using the +1 prefix (standard international call rates may apply on their end depending on their plan).

Can I receive calls and texts while I’m in Canada or Mexico?

Yes, as long as Data Roaming is turned on for data, and your SIM is set as the default voice line. Note: call and text functionality to USA/Canada/Mexico numbers still works without Data Roaming enabled.

Data & Hotspot

Is the data really unlimited?

Yes — data in the USA and Mexico is unlimited. However: - Video streaming is capped at Standard Definition (max 1.5 Mbps) - During periods of network congestion, a small fraction of customers using more than 50GB/month may notice temporarily reduced speeds (data prioritisation) - Canada data is capped at 25GB at high speed, after which speeds may be reduced to 2G

Can I use hotspot/tethering to connect my laptop or other devices?

Yes, but hotspot is only available in the USA and is limited: - Standard plan: 10GB hotspot data - Premium plan: 30GB hotspot data

Hotspot is not available in Canada or Mexico.

How do I check my data usage?

  • iOS: Settings → Mobile → Current Period (or Current Period Roaming)
  • Android: Settings → Network & Internet → Data Usage

Note: Since data is unlimited in the USA, tracking hotspot usage is most important (the hotspot limit is the main cap to watch).

Can I top up or add more data?

No top-ups are available for this plan. If your hotspot data runs out or your Canada roaming data (25GB) is exhausted, contact us before your plan expires to discuss extension options or purchase a new SIM (note: a new number will be assigned).

Device Compatibility

What devices are compatible?

This SIM/eSIM works with unlocked mobile phones compatible with the AT&T network. It does NOT work with: - iPads - Tablets - MiFi/WiFi dongles - Data-only devices

Important for Chinese-brand phones: Devices purchased in mainland China (e.g. Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi) may not be compatible with the AT&T network. Always check compatibility before purchasing.

How do I check if my phone is compatible?

  1. Visit AT&T’s BYOD compatibility checker and enter your phone’s IMEI number
  2. Make sure your device is unlocked (not restricted to your home carrier)
  3. Check that your device is not reported as lost or stolen at stolenphonechecker.org

How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?

Dial *#06# on your device. If you see a 32-digit EID number, your phone supports eSIM. If there is no EID, get a physical SIM card instead.

Which iPhones are compatible?

The following iPhone models are compatible with the AT&T network: iPhone 6, 6 Plus, SE (all generations), 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 12, 12 Pro, 13, 13 Pro, 14, 14 Pro, 15, 15 Pro, 16, 16 Pro, and newer models.

eSIM note: iPhones from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao do not support eSIM, except for the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone SE (2020).

To check if your iPhone is unlocked: Settings → General → About. If it says “No SIM restrictions” next to Network Provider Lock/Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.

Which Samsung phones are compatible?

Compatible Samsung models include: Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8+, S9, S9+, Note 5, Note 8, Note 9, S10e, S10, S10+, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra 5G, S21, S21 5G, S21+ 5G, S22 series, S23 series, S24 series, Z Flip, and Z Fold series.

eSIM note — not supported on: - Samsung S20/S21 FE Series - Samsung Note 20 Ultra (Hong Kong origin) - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 (Hong Kong origin) - Samsung devices from the USA and Canada (except S24 series and newer)

For the AT&T eSIM specifically, we recommend iPhones (iPhone 12 and above) for the most reliable experience. Android users may encounter occasional activation or connectivity issues — for Android, a physical SIM card is generally more reliable.

Which other Android phones are compatible?

Google Pixel 3 and later, select Motorola, Sony Xperia, OnePlus, OPPO, Honor, Sharp AQUOS, and others. See the full compatibility list on the product page or contact support at hello@globalstarlink.com.au.

APN Settings

APN settings are automatically configured on most modern smartphones after inserting the SIM. If you need to set them manually, use the following:

Username (leave blank)
Password (leave blank)

If manual APN setup is required for your specific device, contact our support team for assistance.

Ordering, Delivery & Activation Dates

How is the SIM/eSIM delivered?

  • Physical SIM: Shipped via Australia Post. Orders placed before 12pm AEST are dispatched the same day (excluding weekends and public holidays). Orders after 12pm AEST are dispatched the next business day. Standard and express delivery options available. Local pickup available Mon–Fri 10am–4pm.
  • eSIM: Delivered digitally within 24 hours of order placement (push notification to your device + QR code to your email).

When should I submit my activation date?

Submit your arrival date (the date you want the SIM to activate) at least 3 days before you arrive. The SIM activates at 8:00 AM PST on that date.

Can I change my activation date after I’ve submitted it?

Yes, but you must contact us at hello@globalstarlink.com.au at least 3 days before your original arrival date. The activation time (8:00 AM PST) cannot be changed, only the date.

How long do I have to activate the SIM after purchase?

  • Physical SIM: Must be activated within 6 months of purchase.
  • eSIM: Must be installed and used within 6 months of purchase.

What are the plan duration options?

Plans run for the selected duration from the activation date (e.g. 7 days, 14 days, 30 days). Check the product page for current duration options.

Troubleshooting

My SIM/eSIM isn’t connecting. What should I do?

  1. Check your data usage — ensure your plan hasn’t expired or your Canada roaming data hasn’t been exhausted
  2. Confirm you’re in a covered country (USA, Canada, or Mexico)
  3. Check device settings — make sure AT&T SIM is set as primary data line
  4. Enable Data Roaming — required for Canada and Mexico
  5. Toggle Airplane Mode on and off
  6. Restart your device
  7. Manually select AT&T network in your network settings if automatic selection fails
  8. Check APN settings — ensure they are set correctly (see APN section above)

⚠️ Do NOT delete your eSIM profile if it hasn’t connected yet. Wait up to 30 minutes before taking further action. A deleted eSIM cannot be reinstated.

If issues persist, contact us during business hours at hello@globalstarlink.com.au before purchasing from another provider — we need the opportunity to resolve the issue first, or a refund may not be possible.

My phone connected before 8am PST on my arrival date — is that normal?

Yes. Some customers have reported connecting slightly before the stated 8am PST activation time. This is normal and not a cause for concern.

I accidentally deleted my eSIM. What happens?

Deleted eSIM profiles cannot be reinstated and are non-refundable. Contact support immediately if you have installation issues — do not delete the eSIM before reaching out.

Do I need a VPN or special settings for streaming apps?

No VPN is required. However, if you use a VPN or Apple Private Relay, make sure to disable them during initial activation. They can be re-enabled afterwards.

General Questions (from CS Team)

Is there a contract or credit check?

No. This is a prepaid plan with no annual contract, no credit check, and no activation fees.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The price you see is the price you pay. Plans are prepaid, so there are no surprise charges, roaming fees, or extra costs.

Can I use this SIM if I have a dual SIM phone?

Yes. If your phone supports dual SIM, you can keep your home SIM in the device. Make sure: - Data Roaming is turned OFF for your home SIM (to avoid roaming charges on your home plan) - The AT&T SIM is set as the primary Mobile Data line - Your home SIM is set as the default Voice Line if you want to keep receiving calls to your home number

Can I use messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage?

Yes. WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Skype, and other VoIP/messaging apps all work over data and are the recommended way to contact people outside of North America.

Can I use the SIM on a tablet or iPad?

No. This SIM is for mobile phones only. It is not compatible with tablets, iPads, MiFi devices, or Wi-Fi dongles.

Will it work for banking apps and two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Yes. Your US number can receive SMS verification codes. If you have a dual SIM phone, you can also keep your home SIM active to receive 2FA codes on your home number (just keep Data Roaming off for the home SIM to avoid charges).

Is this the same as a tourist SIM or visitor SIM for the USA?

Yes. This is a prepaid travel SIM designed specifically for international visitors and travellers to the USA. It provides the same network access as a local AT&T prepaid customer.

How does AT&T coverage compare to T-Mobile in the USA?

Both AT&T and T-Mobile offer excellent nationwide 4G and 5G coverage. AT&T is generally considered the best option for Alaska, Hawaii, and rural/regional areas. If you also plan to travel in Canada or Mexico, AT&T is the stronger option as this plan includes roaming in both countries.

What is AT&T Level Up?

AT&T Level Up is a feature offered to AT&T Prepaid customers that allows them to upgrade to a postpaid device using their payment history — with no credit check required. This applies to AT&T’s own postpaid plans and is not directly relevant to the Global Starlink travel SIM, but demonstrates the broader benefits of the AT&T ecosystem.

Can I transfer my number from another carrier?

No. This plan comes with a new US phone number. Number portability (transferring your existing number) is not available for these prepaid travel SIM plans.

Calls to/from Your Travel Companions

My travel companion also has an AT&T SIM from Global Starlink. Can we call each other?

Yes. If your travel companions also have AT&T USA SIM cards, you can call and text each other directly using your US numbers.

My travel companion has a different country SIM (e.g. Canada or Japan SIM). Can we communicate?

  • If their plan includes calls/texts to US numbers, they can call and text you directly.
  • If they are using home-country roaming, you can text them but calling may not work. In that case, use WhatsApp, iMessage, or another messaging app.

Returns & Support

What is the return/refund policy?

  • Returns are accepted within 1 day of receiving the order, provided the SIM has not been activated and the eSIM QR code has not been generated.
  • No refunds for incorrect plan selection, misuse, or if you purchase from another provider without first contacting us to resolve an issue.
  • Refunds are processed minus a transaction fee (Credit Card: 1.75–2.9% + $0.30 AUD; PayPal: 2.6–3.6% + applicable fee).
