Two ways to stay online in Africa. For a short Egypt-only trip, a local eSIM on the Etisalat network starts at A$24.90 and connects directly rather than roaming. For South Africa, Kenya, Morocco or a multi-country trip, one Orange Global Explorer eSIM connects in 37 African countries and keeps working across Europe, Asia and the Americas on the same QR code. Both plans are data-only, support hotspot sharing, and are emailed within minutes of ordering.

Which Africa eSIM Should I Buy?

  • Egypt only (Cairo, Luxor, the Red Sea coast): choose the Egypt eSIM for a trip of a week or so. It runs on Etisalat's own network rather than roaming, and the 5GB plan is the cheapest way to cover a short stay. For 20GB in Egypt alone, the Global Explorer eSIM below is actually the better-value option.
  • South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco or several countries: choose the Global Explorer eSIM. One plan covers the whole itinerary, including stopovers in Europe or the Middle East, so you never swap profiles at a border.
  • Egypt plus other countries: the Global Explorer eSIM also includes Egypt with the full 20GB, so you only need one plan.

Coverage: 37 African Countries

The Global Explorer eSIM is sold as a single plan, but the data allowance depends on the country you are in. Check your destinations before you buy.

Allowance Countries
20GB Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Réunion, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia
15GB Kenya
10GB Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia
5GB Lesotho, Mauritania
1GB Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Togo
50MB Côte d'Ivoire

Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Angola are not covered by either plan. Lesotho and Mauritania receive 5GB; Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea and Togo receive 1GB; Côte d'Ivoire receives only 50MB. If your trip centres on one of the smaller-allowance countries, contact us before you buy.

How It Works

  1. Order online. Your QR code is emailed to you, usually within minutes.
  2. Install the eSIM before you fly, while you still have Wi-Fi. Installing does not start the clock.
  3. Land, turn on data roaming for the new eSIM, and it connects to the network automatically.
  4. Your validity period begins at that first network connection.

Why Buy Your Africa eSIM From Us

  • Australian-based support that answers in plain English before, during and after your trip.
  • No roaming bill shock: both plans are prepaid, with no contract and no auto-renewal.
  • Hotspot included on every plan, so a laptop or a travel companion can share the connection.
  • Keep your own SIM: the eSIM sits alongside your home number, so you still receive calls and texts while using African data.

Africa eSIM FAQs

Will the eSIM work on safari or outside the big cities?

Both plans use the destination's mobile networks, so coverage follows the local towers. Cities, airports, coastal resorts and the main national parks are generally well served; remote bush camps and desert routes may have little or no signal with any provider. Download maps and tickets while you have a connection.

Does the Egypt eSIM work in other African countries?

No. The Egypt eSIM covers Egypt only. For any other country, or for Egypt combined with other destinations, use the Global Explorer eSIM.

When does my plan start?

Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination. You can install it at home beforehand. The Egypt eSIM QR code must be installed and used within 90 days of purchase.

Can I make calls or send texts?

The Egypt eSIM is data-only. The Global Explorer eSIM includes a French number with free incoming calls, a small bundle of outgoing minutes and 50 texts. For most travellers, WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger over data is the practical way to call home.

Can I share the connection with my laptop?

Yes. Hotspot and tethering are included on every plan in this collection.

Is my phone compatible?

You need an unlocked, eSIM-capable phone. Most iPhones from the XS onward, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S, Note and Z models qualify. Check our eSIM compatibility list if you are unsure.
